Here are the facts:

Suicide is the 11th leading cause of death in the United States.

In 2022, nearly 50 thousand Americans died by suicide - that accounts for 1 death every 11 minutes.

There were an estimated 1.6 million suicide attempts, and 13.2 million people “seriously thought about suicide.”

There were twice as many deaths caused by suicide than by homicide.

More than half of the world’s adults have reported feeling lonely in the last day.

In Nebraska, someone is lost to suicide every 32 hours. That’s a suicide rate of 14.9 per 100,000 people.

Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death in Nebraska for those ages 10 - 34.

More than 20% of American adults currently live with a mental illness.

1 in 5 youth (13-18) have dealt with a seriously debilitating mental illness at least once in their lives.

94%

of adults in the United States think that suicide can be prevented. That includes us.

Hopefully that includes you, too. You can make an impact. Reach out to the people around you. Learn coping skills and mental health habits to take care of yourself and others. Change starts with you.

Here’s what we’re doing about it.
